The International Cartographic Association (ICA) is a non-governmental organization, the main tasks of which are as follows: initiation and coordination of international cartographic research; creation of basic cartographic products; development of new technologies for creating and updating digital topographic maps; improvement of the exchange of information and documentation; development of vocational education; dissemination of knowledge in cartography.

The ICA was founded in 1961 in Paris at the first International Cartographic Conference, and on January 20, 2000 it was registered as a non-profit organization in the Swedish national register of organizations. ICA members are national federations, associations, committees, unions, etc., that carry out cartography work and assist in the research and development of various aspects of cartography.

In the period from 1971 to 2009, the interests of the Russian Federation in the ICA were represented by the Federal Agency of Geodesy and Cartography. Since 2009, Rosreestr is a national member of the ICA.
